Our Story

Carriages is the brainchild of Michael Attle inspired by a visit to a restaurant located in a colonial railway station in India.

On his return, he was offered and bought the station platform from Oakham. This experience, combined with his desire to celebrate the amazing food scene across East Anglia, was the start of the journey.

He then began to build the station with a signal box and source Pullman Style Carriages, a 1920’s station house and even the flagstones for the platform. This project has been a labour of love for all involved. The highest attention to detail has been paid to this project even down to the weight of the cutlery, quality of the bone china and vintage style glasses and cake stands.

Michael then paired up with Alex Adomeit of Holy Schnitzels to develop the menu and source the finest local ingredients across the region.

Together Michael, Alex and their team have created a truly stunning venue nestled amongst the display gardens at Bannold in Fen Drayton, Cambridge.

Growing Our Own Fruit & Vegetables

We have a kitchen garden with two Victorian Greenhouses, which we use to grow our own delicious fruits and vegetables. All of which are used on our menu.

Meet Our Team

Zlate Head Chef

Originally from Bulgaria, Zlate brings a range of culinary influences from across Europe to her recipe creation. She has over 6 years experience of working within Rosette Starred Restaurants delivering imaginative creations of consistent quality. She is passionate about the provenance of the ingredients working with our gardeners to plan the planting and harvesting of many of the fruit and vegetables used in the menu.

Thomas Front of House

Thomas looks after our front of house. His main focus is to make sure that your experience with us is positive and memorable. He has over 10 years experience in hospitality working in private Golf Clubs and the Four-star Borringdon Park Hotel.

Alex General Manager

Alex has over 30 years experience in sales and marketing in the food service sector and has successfully launched his own gourmet food truck in Cambridge. As a true foodie with a commercial bias, he is focussed on delivering quality ingredients and an enjoyable experience to all of the Carriages passengers.

Emilee Bookings & Social Media

Emilee manages all our bookings and social media marketing. She has a background in customer service and has a passion for the vintage scene.
